Mark Cooper started Cooper Foods in 1986 with Will Cooper joining him a year later. Since then, with the support and hard work of a loyal workforce, Coopers has undergone an impressive transformation.

Initially Mark started the company as a smokery with the addition (with the help of a willing mother) of making and selling home made meat pies to the catering trade. With the customers asking for cocktail prawns and breaded scampi and Mark’s desire to develop Cooper Foods, the early morning trips to Billingsgate began!

Since those early days the essence of Coopers has not changed. Coopers offer products and a service that you, the customer are asking for. The introduction of the 24 hour sales office and prep team has made the service offered by Coopers second to none. Your ability to talk to a real person after your evening service has been found to be invaluable by our customers. In addition, with competitiveness in mind, Coopers have increased their product range, offering great deals in other complimentary products such as butchery, pastas and desserts.

Cooper Foods, however primarily remains a seafood wholesaler offering an extensive range of fresh fish from around the world. In doing so a great deal of care is taken with the sourcing, quality and cost of selected seafood. Purchasing, however, is based around our core belief that native species are the best for flavour and freshness. For this reason Coopers still buy the majority of English prime seafood from Brixham (Devon) where there are still many day boats. In fact certain products such as skin-on skate will only be brought from Brixham.

As with native seafood, exotic species that are purchased have to reflect certain criteria; quality, portion cost and desirability. Exotic loins such as tuna, swordfish and marlin are invariably in stock. When cutting up a loin there is little to no wastage and therefore portion costs are easy to control.

As with fresh produce, Coopers have become involved with the development of various new frozen products. In all that we develop certain criteria are always adhered too; cost, quality, and ease of use. Whether you are looking for a new angle on an old favourite (such as the naked bass, cod and ginger fishcake) or for something exotic (the skewered King prawns in garlic) there is something for you.

With the continued hands-on day-to-day running of the company by the two brothers, Mark and Will, Coopers will continue in all that it holds dear; quality, service and value.

There is one thing that you can be sure of from a family run business: We are still listening to what our customers are saying and what you are asking for!
